Super Bowl Monday

Since the Super Bowl started at about 12:30am this Monday morning, we really have Super Bowl Monday here in Italy.  A lot of the Mount students came to an American bar in Florence that was showing the Super Bowl on ESPN America.  (We don’t get this channel in our apartment!)  And so I know I won’t win father-of-the-year for this one, but Nicholas and Thomas joined in the festivities.  After the first week of the NFL season, Nicholas said that the Saints would win the Super Bowl, and he followed them all year!  So I couldn’t deny him the opportunity to see his prediction come true.  The game ended at about 4am…  It was actually amazing to walk home without any cars and motor scooters on the streets!

Later in the day today, my students and I met with a professor from the Syracuse University in Florence.  She runs a volunteer program in which college students go to Italian elementary schools and read to the children in English.  She gave us an orientation, and I have twenty-three of our students participating.  They will go in groups of two or three to a number of different schools over the next couple of months.  It should be a lot of fun.  It will also be a great way for our students to serve the local community and to have an opportunity to interact with Italian children.

I then took a few pictures on the walk to soccer practice this evening.  Enjoy!

This is the soccer schedule for this weekend – can you tell when and where Nicholas and Thomas are each playing?
